Hello everyone!  We hope your summer is going well.  We didn't plan to publish an August newsletter.
BUT... upon receiving multiple requests for more summer chess dates,
the August schedule for the Shenandoah Valley Chess Club has expanded yet again!
Please check the website and Meetup page for more information.
August Update: More Saturday Chess @ Steamy's + More Chess Champs @ Bowman
Saturdays at Steamys Cafe
Our first Saturday of Chess & Coffee at Steamy's Cafe + Chess Champs at Bowman have been great.
Many have asked for more dates, so we've added three more Saturday events in August.
Steamy's Cafe has quickly become a favorite local chess hangout.  Should you miss a Saturday Chess & Coffee yet still wish to play, there is good news.  The cafe keeps tournament boards and pieces on-hand.  Now you and friends can play chess games at any time.  Just ask Lenny and tell him the Chess Club sent you.
Also, we have added more Saturday Chess at Bowman Library (a.k.a. Chess Champs) in August.  We will explore Fall Saturday Schedules at both locations if interest keeps growing. (And so far it has!)
It's Time for the 2015 Sinquefield Cup LIVE from Saint Louis, Missouri
For those who missed last year's event, the 2014 Sinquefield Cup was nothing short of electrifying.  Fabiano Carauna, now the #1 Player for Team USA, made history by dominating the toughest field of elite chess players ever assembled.
Tune into the Live Coverage for the 2015 Sinquefield Cup from the Chess Club & Scholastic Center of Saint Louis, Missouri.

Round 1 begins Sunday, August 23rd at 2PM EST.

The Sinquefield Cup is a great introduction to the world of professional chess, and it is rich with colorful commentary and easy-to-follow ESPN-style visuals that all skill levels will enjoy.

We will be following this special tournament closely via social media, and we hope you will too!

Future Developments

With any luck, we are filling your Chess quota for the month of August.

We return to Monday's meetings at Handley Library on September 14th from 4:30 to 7:30PM
(and will probably have a small party to celebrate)

Also, September 18th marks the long-anticipated US Release of Pawn Sacrifice, a new movie about Bobby Fischer starring Toby Maguire.

The trailer for Pawn Sacrifice can be viewed here:

We believe the recent cover of Chess Life magazine said it best:  this is the new golden era for American Chess.

There have never been better opportunities in history to learn and explore the Royal Game.

We are excited for these Chess developments across the U.S. and are glad you have decided to join us in the journey of promoting Chess in our region.

Thanks again for your continued support and participation with the Shenandoah Valley Chess Club.

We look forward to meeting and playing again soon.

Enjoy the rest of summer!
